This is the heartbeat of our team and the driving force behind our commitment to you. Our team has been readily available to answer the call of our brothers and sisters who need assistance dealing with depression, thoughts of suicide, addiction, PTSD, and everything in-between. With a desire to be proactive in bringing more practical solutions to the table, we have developed an industry leading symposium comprised of international leaders in mental, emotional, and physical health issues facing First Responders and their families. Strength is not shouldering another burden; rather, strength is in letting go and asking for help. The team is made up of fire service, EMS, LEO, and 911 telecommunication members from around Illinois and the country. This symposium was intentionally and meticulously crafted to meet the needs of you, your families, and your team back home.
Welcome to the homepage for the Illinois First Responder Co-op Mental Health Symposium! After hosting two back-to-back symposiums, we took a year off due to Covid. But here we are, excited to be back and moving forward with continuing our annual symposium. We had set a new schedule at the last symposium that decreased the downtime between speakers but also allowed time to connect with others from across the country that are being intentional about first responder mental health.
In other good news, we have expanded our reach beyond firefighters to include both police and 911 telecommunicators. With that, we hope to see more of our brothers and sisters in blue attending. We have also returned to the location of our first symposium, the Oak Brook Double Tree.
Once again, I’m proud to bring you a list of speakers that are leaders in their respective field. Each of our speakers was individually selected for the educational experience they can bring. This year we will once again offer teaching about PTSD, addictions, anxiety, suicide, as well as other significant issues that all first responders face.We have worked with each speaker to develop the curriculum around our central goal of providing practical solutions. We want you to leave each presentation with new, knowledge that put into place when you return home. It’s important to me that attendees leave with what they need to make a difference in first responder mental health, not just for the two days they attend the symposium, but for life.
I am always available for questions or concerns – my goal is to make your experience the best it can possibly be.
With that said, I can’t wait to see you in March.
Sincerely,
Executive Director ILFFPS
